Our Leadership

Kenneth Westfield MD, MBA

– Founder

Dr. Kenneth Westfield is an accomplished medical professional with a remarkable career. After serving in the US Army, he graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1976. He founded Nevada’s largest ophthalmology center in 1980, offering comprehensive eye care services.

Dr. Westfield introduced pioneering procedures like radial keratotomy and cataract surgery in Las Vegas and established satellite clinics to provide eye care in rural Nevada. He became the first surgeon to serve a major managed care contract, expanding access to eye surgery. After joining many medical missions in Mexico, Democratic Republic of Congo and Haiti, he founded the Global Endowment for Sight, to continue bringing essential eye care to those in need and to scale that impact.

Dr. Westfield’s dedication to serving others has made a lasting difference in the medical community and in the lives of the hundreds of thousands of patients he has treated.

Hon Vu Duong MD, SFHEA

– President and Medical Director

Dr. Duong’s journey to becoming an accomplished physician and educator is truly remarkable. Dr. Duong immigrated from Vietnam and grew up in Virginia. After serving in the US Army, he pursued higher education, completing his medical training at esteemed institutions such as Pennsylvania State University, The University of Virginia, and Howard University Hospital. Dr. Duong’s passion for ophthalmology led him to advanced training in ophthalmic pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Oculoplastic, and Microsurgery.

He also served as Director of Continuing Education at the Westfield Eye Center, ensuring staff members are up-to-date with the latest advancements in eye care. As a distinguished lecturer of Neuroscience, he goes above and beyond to instill a love of learning in his students at Nevada State College.

Dr. Duong’s work extends to research, publications, and global mission trips, making him an inspiration in both education and community service.

Todd Jackson MD, MPH

– Medical Director, Guatemala Program

Dr. Todd Jackson, a Nevada native, embodies a lifelong commitment to community service. Inspired by his early volunteer work and experiences in Guatemala, he pursued a career in medicine, specializing as an ophthalmologist. In 2011, he founded the Prestige Laser and Cataract Institute, providing exceptional medical care while prioritizing giving back.

Dr. Jackson actively participates in the H.O.P.E. clinic, offering care on a pay-it-forward basis, and has traveled globally to serve in eye missions, delivering crucial care to underserved areas. His dedication to service has positively impacted countless individuals and communities, contributing to the success of his business.

Dr. Jackson is a valued member and leader of the GES Volunteer Medical Team, continuing to make a significant difference in the lives of those he serves.

Our Medical Team

Mike Maingrette M.D.

Dr. Mike Maingrette, a dedicated Ophthalmologist in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, completed his education at Universidad Lasalle, Mexico, specializing in ophthalmology and glaucoma. He has made significant contributions to eye care, working at International Child Care (ICC) at Grace Children Hospital (GCH) since 2001 and co-founding ORLO Clinique in 2002. In 2018 he joined Hôpital de l’université d’état d’Haiti (HUEH) where he also serves as an ophthalmologist. Committed to improving eye care, he has actively participated in community and outreach work and furthered his expertise with international training.

Dr. Maingrette holds memberships in prestigious organizations like the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Haitian Society of Ophthalmology (SHO), serving as President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness (CNPC). His dedication has profoundly impacted ophthalmology in Haiti.

Nina Marcellus MSN-Ed, RN, CNEcl, CHSE

Nina Marcellus, with a wealth of experience in nursing education, currently serves as the Director of Health Sciences Skills Lab and Simulation at Nevada State University’s School of Nursing in Henderson, NV. Nina’s journey began in 2018 as an adjunct simulation facilitator, progressing to a full-time faculty role in 2020. She earned her BSN from Nevada State College in 2013 and gained valuable experience in neonatal ICU nursing, including training new graduate nurses at Sunrise Children’s Hospital.

In 2017, Nina obtained her MSN-Ed, propelling her into academia. Her dedication and leadership led to her selection for the National League of Nursing’s 2022 Simulation Leadership Institute. Certified as a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNEcl) and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), Nina’s passion for healthcare education shines through in her commitment to constant learning and her exceptional role in shaping the future of nursing.

Gabrielle Mitchell CST

Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Gabrielle is a NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist, now residing in Northern California. With nearly two decades of experience in the operating room, Gabrielle has become an essential figure in surgical patient care. Since April 2012, she has been a dedicated member of the Kaiser Permanente team, where she has also taken a leadership role in Robotic, Urology, and Hand Specialties.

Gabrielle’s compassionate spirit shines through in her commitment to medical missions. For over a decade, she has been part of GES’ trips to Africa and the Philippines.
